Family Bus to School Day

Building Independence and Sustainability Through Transportation

On Friday, September 27, Vail Mountain School (VMS) launched a successful "Family Bus to School Day," an initiative inviting families to embrace the independence and environmental benefits of bus transportation. Approximately 40 students from Gypsum, Eagle, Edwards, and Avon participated, riding together to East Vail in a collective effort to reduce environmental impact while fostering life skills.

This initiative reflects VMS’s commitment to fostering independence and reducing its environmental footprint, aligning with the school’s strategic plan and broader goals for student growth. By partnering with Core Transit, VMS seeks to expand access to sustainable, community-oriented transportation, not just for current students but also for prospective families considering the school.

“Programs like this are about much more than convenience,” says Jamie Walker lead of the VMS Bus Program. “They’re about giving students tools to grow—providing opportunities for less screen time and more real-world interactions. With every trip, students build confidence, life skills, and connection to the community.”

VMS looks forward to building on the momentum of this event, aiming to extend participation to more families throughout the valley. This partnership with Core Transit underscores the school’s commitment to creating a healthier, more connected, and accessible environment for all.
