VMS Summer Camps 2021

VMS Summer Camp registration is now open! We are excited to offer your family some wonderful camps held this summer at Vail Mountain School! Registration for camps begins now and will be open until May 1. If you wish to sign up after that date, please send an email directly to Kristin Douthitt  and the camp instructor.

Please note the cancellation fees below. If you need to cancel your camp please email Kristin Douthitt and the camp instructor. We will try to find replacement campers, but if we are unable to, we will follow the cancellation fee schedule below.
If camps need to be cancelled due to the spread of COVID-19 according to the Eagle County Public Health Protocol, all camps will be refunded in full.

  • Camps canceled by April 14 - charged registration fee of $30
  • Camps canceled between April 15 and May 31 - charged half of camp registration
  • Camps canceled on or after June 1 - charged full camp registration

**Please note that in order for camps to run, there needs to be a minimum number of campers signed up by May 1. If your camp needs to be canceled you will receive an email from the camp instructor letting you know. As soon as the camp hits the minimum number of campers, the camp instructor will send an email confirming your camp.
 
SUPER FUN SCIENCE STEM CAMP
Session I: June 7th - 10th; 9 am - 3 pm
Session II: June 14th -17th; 9 am - 3 pm

Campers will participate in STEM activities that may include making bottle rockets, cubelets building and races, making giant bubble blowers, oobleck, sugar crystals, makey makey games, an egg drop challenge, make your own ice cream, pizza box solar ovens, outdoor play and arts and crafts as well. Come join in the fun!
 
SPANISH SUMMER CAMP
Session I: June 14th - 18th; 9 am - 3 pm

The goal of the Spanish Summer Camp is to provide an opportunity for students to learn and practice Spanish skills in a safe, fun, engaging, and positive environment. Students will actively participate in activities inside and outside the class setting. There will be a balanced mix of language learning and fun. Activities include (but are not limited to) songs, acting, dancing, team building, sports, and exploring the outdoors. Mr. Lynch has extensive experience in the leadership of summer camps in Colorado, Barcelona, Berlin, Switzerland, and Chile. 

CAMP MAGIC MOUNTAIN

Camp Magic Mountain is a day camp where children will explore outside, create with arts and crafts, and review essential language arts and math skills. Children will be active, connect with nature, have time for structured and unstructured play, work on social skills and become more independent, and will make new friends. First grade teacher, Kara Robinson, will lead campers each day and provide a fun and engaging environment.

Join Mrs. Arnason and Mr. Lambert for an action packed week playing in our vast backyard. Based out of VMS campus we will pack our days exploring our mountains, creeks, and trails. If we can bike there, we will! Just two requirements - a mountain bike and a smile!
 
TRAVELING AROUND CHINA
Session I: June 21st - 25th; 9 am - 3 pm

Session I - Rising 1st and 2nd Graders
In this five day camp, students will “travel” around China through an exploration into the history, places of interest, music, and food in such famous cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xi’an, and Chengdu in China. The camp will provide an engaging and fun learning environment for students to improve their communication skills as well as Chinese language and cultural proficiency. Their experience will also be enriched by such activities as virtual visits to popular places in the Chinese cities, online and/or real-life guest speakers, communications with local people, artifact exploration, and making cuisine.
Session II (Mandarin Immersion Camp) - Rising 3rd-6th graders
The difference with this session is that it will be an immersion experience where mandarin will be spoken most of the time. Mrs. Kang is hopeful to plan for a field trip to the Chinese Market in Denver as a highlight for this camp. This will be determined two weeks prior to the start of camp.

GORE RANGERS SOCCER AND ADVENTURE CAMP
July 26th-30th; 9 am - 3 pm
Ages: Rising 2nd-5th Grade Students

Gore Rangers Soccer and Adventure is a day camp where children will learn about and play soccer! Campers will participate in a variety of drills, games, and exercises. They will also have time to explore outside and play. Children will be active, connect with nature, have time for structured and unstructured play, work on social skills, become more independent, and make new friends. First grade teacher Kara Robinson and her husband Chris Robinson will lead campers each day and provide a fun and engaging environment.

DINOSAURS EXPLORE!
June 28th-July 1st; 9 am - 3 pm
Ages: Rising 1st-2nd Grade Students

Come learn about all your favorite dinosaurs through hands-on exploration and play! Each day children will dive into being paleontologists and scientists! Get ready to learn how to uncover fossils, create fossil molds and so much more! The final day will be a field trip to an ancient sea bed to go fossil hunting!
 
SMALL SCALE FASHION DESIGN
June 29th-July 1st; 9 am - 3 pm
Ages: Rising 1st-6th Grade Students

Come plan, design, and construct different looks for your 12 inch model using no-sew and hand sewing techniques during this three day art camp. Creations will be shared as a virtual “fashion show” at the end of camp. Time will be spent indoors and outdoors each day.

Does your child love to experiment, ask questions, explore, and learn? We will explore balance and motion to experiment, design, and ask questions. Children will work in groups to complete project based learning and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art math) fun! Children can do both sessions, as it will be different each session.

ART TREASURES

“One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.”  In this three day art camp, artists will use their creativity to produce extraordinary treasures from items that are often looked at as ordinary. Through reusing and repurposing, we will give new life to materials that may have otherwise ended up in a landfill. Time will be spent indoors and outdoors each day.  
 
YOUR TINY HOUSE
July 13th-16th; 9 am - 3 pm

Have you ever dreamed about designing your very own home or dollhouse? Come design, build, and play with your very own custom tiny house in this four day art camp! You will paint, decorate, make furniture, etc…the possibilities are endless when you are the interior designer! The house measures approximately 24 in x 24 in x 9 in for planning purposes. Time will be spent indoors and outdoors each day.  Due to the nature of the projects, class size is limited to allow for sufficient one-on-one support.

NATURE EXPLORERS CAMP

MINING AND ENGINEERING CAMP
Session I: July 19th - 22nd; 9 am - 3:30 pm  Monday-Wednesday and 9 am-12:15 pm on Thursday
Session II: July 26th - 29th; 9 am - 3:30 pm  Monday-Wednesday and 9 am-12:15 pm on Thursday

This camp will be based out of VMS and will make use of the VMS Outdoor Property, VMS Gym, Booth Creek, and Local Public Lands (within a short walk). 

  • Campers should be prepared to be outside all day and ready to get dirty.
  • Campers will explore Colorado mining history through stories and role-playing activities.
  • Campers will become mining engineers and solve historical mining problems such as:
  • How to separate minerals from ore (using physical and chemical techniques)
  • How to harness energy from water
  • How to use pulleys to lift heavy ore buckets
  • How to maximize ore extraction by using different mining techniques
  • And how to problem solve new challenges as they arise!

SQUEEZABLE SOFT SCULPTURES
July 20th-22nd; 9 am - 3 pm

UNBE”WEAVE”ABLE ART
