Welcome to the Hummingbird Society, Vail Mountain School’s Grandparent Program. We are grateful to have created this special community to celebrate and honor the meaningful role grandparents play in the lives of our students and in the life of our school.
This website is dedicated to the Hummingbird Society and serves as a place to share updates, upcoming opportunities, and ways to stay connected with the VMS community. Whether you are a longtime member of our school family or are newly joining us, we are delighted to welcome you to this community.
The Hummingbird Society was inspired by the small, beautiful, and mighty hummingbirds that inhabit our Colorado mountains — symbols of energy, resilience, and grace. In that same spirit, the Hummingbird Society celebrates the unique wisdom, love, and support grandparents bring to our students. Your presence and perspective enrich the VMS experience and remind us that education is strengthened through connections across generations.
Through the Hummingbird Society, we hope to create meaningful opportunities for you to engage with your grandchildren’s learning, connect with fellow grandparents, and celebrate the community that helps shape our students.

Join a warm and welcoming network of grandparents who share your pride and enthusiasm. Whether it’s swapping stories at a school event or connecting over coffee after a school performance, you’ll feel right at home.
Letters of Wisdom Project
At special times throughout the school year, the Hummingbird Society will invite grandparents to participate in our Letters of Wisdom project — a meaningful opportunity to share your wisdom, encouragement, and love with your grandchild.
Just as you treasure the drawings, notes, and special moments your grandchild shares with you, these letters provide a chance to create a lasting keepsake they can cherish for years to come.
When the project is open, grandparents will receive an email from the Hummingbird Society with a link to complete the Letters of Wisdom online form. Please be sure to include your name and your grandchild(ren)’s name. We will lovingly transcribe your message onto our Letter of Wisdom stationery, print it, and share it with your grandchild to enjoy and treasure.
These letters serve as heartfelt reminders of your love, guidance, and presence in their lives — a special connection between generations and a lasting part of their VMS journey.
