Welcome to the Hummingbird Society

Dear Grandparents,
It is a pleasure to share that the Hummingbird Society, our Grandparent Society, has officially launched at Vail Mountain School! This website is dedicated to the Hummingbird Society, providing news and information for every grandparent in our community. This new program reflects the profound role you play in the lives of our students and in the life of our school. Your presence, perspective, and care add depth and continuity to the VMS experience, reminding us that education is strengthened by connections across generations.
The Hummingbird Society was inspired by the small, beautiful, and mighty hummingbirds that inhabit our Colorado mountains — symbols of energy, resilience, and grace. In that same spirit, the Hummingbird Society is designed to offer meaningful opportunities for you to engage with your grandchildren’s learning and to share in the community that shapes them.
We look forward to connecting with you, learning from you, and celebrating the invaluable place you hold in the VMS story.
With warm regards,

Steve Bileca
Head of School

Letters of Wisdom Project
As you hold dear the drawings and letters your grandchild creates, we have prepared a special opportunity for you to write a letter of wisdom to your grandchild.
Simply click here and complete the letters of wisdom online form, and be sure to include your name and your grandchild(ren)’s name. We will lovingly transcribe your message onto our Letter of Wisdom stationery, print it, and display it for your grandchild to pick up and treasure. These letters will become keepsakes. Heartfelt reminders of your love, guidance, and presence in their lives.

The VMS Fund and Supporting VMS
At Vail Mountain School, the VMS Fund is the heart of our annual giving efforts. It supports every aspect of the student experience—from exceptional faculty and innovative programs to financial aid, arts, athletics, and the everyday moments that make VMS feel like home. Gifts of all sizes make a meaningful difference, and we deeply appreciate the many ways grandparents strengthen our community through their presence, encouragement, and generosity.
This year, in honor of Colorado Gives Day, a group of VMS grandparents has created a special challenge: they will match all gifts to the VMS Fund—up to $20,000—made through December 31. Whether you’re able to participate in this challenge or you support VMS in other ways, please know how grateful we are for the love and commitment you share with our school. You make an enduring impact on our students and our community.
