Student Government Update

Student Government is off to a strong start this year:
  • We have been working on a new Student government constitution which defines our rules, expectations, and roles.
  • We have planned fun events like spirit week activities, which are happening this week.
  • We will be having volleyball games during break for the upper school student and a faculty Senior game at the pep rally on Friday.
  • We have instituted sports pickup games for upper school students during their free periods.
These new events have all been designed to enhance the student experience and provide more informal bonding opportunities.

Additionally, we have kicked off a new guest speaker series during town meeting. For our first speaker we were lucky to have Festus Ezeli speak to the upper school students and parts of middle school. Festus is a professional basketball player who has won an NBA championship with Golden State Warriors.  He delivered a great message focused on the value of hard work, perseverance and compassion.  We hope throughout the year to bring in a diverse group of thought provoking speakers.

We are continuing to meet to plan future initiatives. Some ideas include:
  • creating more clubs after school for high school (starting with an investment club);
  • having a winter formal dance for high school students;
  • and setting up movie nights for the younger students.
We welcome your input.  Please send your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions to me at gsavin@vms.edu.
