Varsity Volleyball Update

September 23, 2014- Coach Garvey checked in after a lengthy stint of road games and offered the following overview of the season. “The VMS volleyball team is happy to be at home this weekend after spending their first nine matches on the road this season. They have been challenged with an almost entirely new lineup after graduating five seniors and a few new additions to the team.

All of this has provided many learning opportunities, which has been the primary focus for this year. Morale has been tremendous and each success and every failure has been greeted as an opportunity to improve individually and as a team.

In volleyball, regular season games determine a team’s seed in postseason and no teams can be eliminated based on the regular season standings. As we enter the second half of the season, our goal is to be the best team we can be when the postseason arrives. Seven of twelve league matches remain and we are excited for Elle Dice to join the varsity roster this week.

The team played in the Simla Tournament over the weekend and had a chance to test themselves against some of the top teams in the state. During the Gore Rangers’ final match of the tournament, the team gained some momentum to pick up a win against Ignacio in their final match of the tournament.

While on the road, we also took the opportunity to watch some college-level volleyball at Denver University. The girls were impressed by the abilities of the players but also by their attention to detail and focus. The second half of the season is about to begin and VMS is ready for the challenge!”
