Greenhouse Ribbon Cutting

September 9, 2014- Members of the VMS community gathered with neighbors and supporters of the greenhouse project last Thursday before Back to School Night to formally dedicate the school's newest classroom. Head of School, Mike Imperi offered remarks and thanks to the many people and companies who came together to design and build the greenhouse. Christina Lautenberg, one of the chairs of Parent Partners and key proponents of the project, spoke about the genesis of the idea. Gabe Scherzer, who is the school's greenhouse coordinator provided an overview of the space's many systems including the ground to a heat transfer system and the Aquaponics set up that will use live fish to create nitrogen rich material to be used as fertilizer. The ceremony concluded with a champagne toast, ribbon cutting and tour of the facility.
