VMS School News
May 6, 2014- Last Wednesday was Day of the Arts at VMS. After two academic periods in the morning, students began a day-long program designed to provide opportunities to experiment in a variety of age-appropriate mediums.
The program kicked off with an all-school gathering in the theater for student performances ranging from dance to a karaoke style rendition of Vanilla Ice's greatest hit, "Ice Ice Baby" complete with backup break dancers. Students then dove into a cross-age, collaborative art project focused on diversity working together in field day teams to make stained glass. In place of lead and colored glass, they used corn syrup and food coloring that they applied to transparent plastic sheets. Each group created a handful of squares that would later be assembled into one larger piece.
Following the stained glass project, each division gathered to participate in workshops held throughout the school. Some examples include printmaking, glass blowing, fly tying, glass etching, making jewelry, an improv workshop, 3D design and printing, music and drawing workshops, and creating skateboard art.
