Why Join VMS?
At Vail Mountain School, we don’t just teach—we live our mission to develop character, seek knowledge, and build community. Our work is grounded in the belief that education should support the whole person, and that a thriving school community is built on strong relationships, inclusivity, and shared purpose.
Faculty and staff at VMS are part of a cross-age learning community where students and adults grow side by side. We are deeply committed to making our school accessible to all—through flexible tuition, scholarship programs, and intentional community-building efforts that ensure every student and employee feels seen, supported, and valued.
Whether skiing before work or trail running after school, VMS offers a unique balance of professional fulfillment and outdoor adventure. At VMS, you’ll find more than a job—you’ll find a shared commitment to inspiring students and enriching the lives of those around you.

Living in the Vail Valley
VMS is located just minutes from the world-renowned Vail ski resort and surrounded by year-round access to skiing, biking, hiking, rivers, and alpine wilderness. While the cost of living in a resort town can be high, many staff find creative, affordable ways to live well—through off-season deals, local connections, and faculty housing support.
Faculty commute from across the Valley—from East Vail to Gypsum—all within 10–40 minutes.
To ease relocation, VMS also offers a limited number of subsidized on-campus one-bedroom apartments for new faculty.
To get around, most faculty drive, but Vail also has a free and reliable town bus system, and Eagle County runs regional buses throughout the valley. Local grocery stores, pharmacies, and shops are easily accessible, and while Vail has its fair share of five-star restaurants, there are also plenty of casual spots, locals’ deals, and off-season specials. Housing availability varies by season, but we’re here to help you navigate the transition and find a place that fits.
Life here does not have to be expensive—once you’re established, you’ll find community resources and local tips to make it all work.”
