Teachers at Vail Mountain School are encouraged to pursue professional development related to their teaching assignment every year and are entitled to reimbursement of up to $500 for summer study. Two generous grants have been given to the school for the purpose of faculty professional development:

•    Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Foundation Endowment
In addition to funds available through the general operating budget, teachers in the fields of science and English receive funds from a $50,000 endowment established through a grant from the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Foundation.

•    Edward E. Ford Foundation Endowment
Funds are also available for upper school teachers from a $61,000 endowment established through a challenge grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation.

•    David Schindel Faculty Initiative Award
Teachers can apply for a $2,500 award for professional development in honor of David Schindel. The recipient is approved by committee on the basis of an outstanding faculty initiative that most clearly advances the pursuit of teaching excellence.

•    John Bellis Scientific Award/Scholarship Endowment
Funds are available to teachers for advancement in the field of geology from an endowment established by family and friends in memory of John Bellis.
